What does the name "After The Masters" mean?
The name was first to be used for an art studio. Cindy paints in the ways of the old masters, often copying their paintings to learn and explore their techniques and teachings, thus "After The Masters". Then when the art studio expanded into the yoga realm the name was still applicable since yoga was traditionally taught in much the same way as the master painter. The guru or yoga master handed down the skills to one student who imulated and copied the master.
Is Yoga a religion? Can I practice Yoga if I am a Christian?
Yoga is not a religion. With that said, each yoga studio/instructor has their own beliefs. At ATM yoga is practiced completely non-sectarian. At ATM the spiritual aspect we observe in our Yoga classes emphasizes the advancement of the individual through the exploration and discovery of their true inner self. This simply means we help the practicioner learn about themselves and understand and eventually to break the cycle of learned behaviour, responses and habits that are adversly effecting their lives, relationships and wellbeing. As with each studio/instructor each practicioner also has their own belief system and can therefore infuse into their practice as much or as little of those beliefs as they desire. Learning new ways to improve your health, calm your senses and enliven your spirit can actually deepen your religious beliefs and reaffirm your convictions.
